Ad Hoc Schedule Policy
The Ad Hoc Schedule is designed for those players who want to play rated tournament games but aren’t able to commit a full weekend or even a full day to playing in a tournament. The Ad Hoc Schedule allows players to register to play a limited number of rounds in a tournament at a reduced per-game entry fee rate. Ad Hoc players may register to play in whichever specific rounds in which they wish to play in accordance with the following Ad Hoc Policy:
1. Ad Hoc players must register for the rounds in which they wish to play no later than the deadline for bye requests in a given tournament. This deadline is before round 2 of a 4-round event (e.g. a Grand Prix tournament) or before round 3 of a 6-round event (e.g. a Classic or U800 event). Late registration fees and play-up fees as applicable at the time of their registration still apply to Ad Hoc players.
2. Players who initially registered for the full event at the full entry fee rate but wish to change to an Ad Hoc schedule may do so before the deadline of the bye requests so long as they had not failed to show up for previous rounds. They will be charged the Ad Hoc per-game rate for all games played plus any late registration fees and/or play-up fees from the original entry that still apply.
3. Ad Hoc players are not eligible to win any prizes nor earn any Grand Prix points.
4. Ad Hoc players will be paired as if they scored 1/2 points in any previously unplayed rounds up to the maximum allowed number of 1/2-point byes for that tournament. They will be scored with zero-point byes for any other unplayed rounds.
5. Ad Hoc players are ineligible to receive full-point byes in any rounds.

6. The Ad Hoc per-game rates for 3-day Classic tournaments are:
-Premier Section: $30/game
-U1800 Section: $25/game
-U1500 Section: $20/game
-U1200 Section: $15/game
7. The Ad Hoc per-game rate for 1-day Grand Prix and U800 tournaments is a flat $10/game for all sections.
Examples:
Example 1: A player rated 1750 can only play on day three of a 3-day Classic tournament and wants to play up into the Premier section as allowed by their rating. They register early in an Ad Hoc schedule to play in rounds 5 & 6 only. They will pay $60 for the two games played ($30/game) plus the $50 play-up fee for a total of $110. They will be paired in round 5 with a score of 1/2 point for each of the unplayed rounds 1 through 3 (because the maximum number of 1/2-point byes allowed is 3) and a zero-point bye for round 4, a total of 1-1/2 points. They will not be eligible to win any prizes.

Example 2: A player can only play in the afternoon on the day of a 1-day Grand Prix tournament so they +register for an Ad Hoc schedule to play only in rounds 3 & 4. They will pay $10/game played for a total of $20 plus any applicable late registration fees and play-up fees.. They will be paired in round 3 with a score of 1/2 point for each of the unplayed rounds 1 and 2, a total of 1 point. They will not be eligible to win any prize or earn any Grand Prix points. (Note: another option they have is to register for the full entry fee of $30 plus late fees and play-up fees and request 1/2-pt byes for rounds 1 & 2. The net effect on their pairings and score is the same but they are then eligible to win prizes and earn Grand Prix points.)
Example 3: A player plays round one in the U1500 section of a Classic event but decides to withdraw after round 2. That player can change to the Ad Hoc schedule and be charged only for the two games played at $20/game for a total of $40. The remainder of his original entry fee, less any late fees and/or play-up fees, will refunded.
